Ordered Items: Antiphospholipid Antibody Panel; Factor V Leiden
Clinical Indication: Evaluation following hemarthrosis (bleeding into joint) discovered 01/04/2026
Antiphospholipid Antibody Panel
This panel tests for autoantibodies associated with antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), which can cause abnormal clotting or bleeding.

Interpretation: All six antiphospholipid antibodies are negative. This rules out antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) as a cause of the hemarthrosis.
Factor V Leiden Genetic Test
Testing for the Factor V Leiden mutation (R506Q), the most common inherited cause of abnormal blood clotting.
Test Result
G-G (Normal-Normal)
No Factor V Leiden mutation present.
Interpretation: While the patient does not possess this risk factor, other thrombotic risk factors may be detected through systematic clinical laboratory analysis.
Methodology: Patient DNA was evaluated for the factor V Leiden mutation at nucleotide 1691 using allele specific PCR technology followed by gel electrophoresis.
Clinical Notes:
- Simultaneous Risks: If a patient possesses two or more congenital or acquired thrombophilic risk factors, the risk of thrombosis may rise to more than the sum of the risk ratios for the individual risk factors.
- The factor V Leiden mutation is an inherited characteristic. If the mutation were present, genetic counseling would be recommended.
- This assay detects only the factor V Leiden mutation and does not detect other genetic abnormalities.
Summary: Both the Antiphospholipid Antibody Panel and Factor V Leiden genetic testing are negative. No inherited or acquired coagulopathy detected that would explain the hemarthrosis. The cause of joint bleeding remains undetermined; may require further rheumatology or hematology evaluation.
